THE ORIGENE

Fertility and infertility is commonly seen as a subject that concerns some sect or age group. Auntie’s and Uncle’s in their 20’s, it’s you I am talking about so please come back here. This is a subject for all. We are here to be educated, to shake some tables, totally break some, inspire and keep hope alive as we await those beautiful bundles of joy.

As soon as people get married, the society begins the countdown for them, not even asking them if they set for the race they are timed for. I remember when Tara got married, the womb watchers were on standby waiting for daily updates. Their usual slogan “Anything in the oven yet?” and I have lost count of the amount of times I’ve had to roll my eyes on her behalf.  I mean, if there is anyone that was born to be a mother, it was Tara and she and Cole are total Parent goals. And time rolled by and weeks became months and months into years. Three years later and still no baby. While pregnancy seemed like mission impossible for them, people around and even those that got married later were all dropping babies like hot singles and EPs. They were having all the great sex in the world so what was wrong? The inability to procreate is commonly considered a personal tragedy for the couple or intending parents, impacting on the entire family and even local community.

There is a lot of stories floating around, everybody has got and advice to give you and you search the internet for symptoms and it feels like you have got the death penalty. Well, well… that is why we are here. The journey hasn’t ended, it’s just getting started, trust in the magic of new beginnings.

I get that this could be a touchy subject for most, I mean God forbid that they say I am infertile. We can try to cast and bind but I guess you should be in the know because ignorance isn’t always bliss. People find it very difficult to go for fertility testing and check-ups forgetting that ignoring the presence of a likely problem does not make the problem go away.

Infertility as defined by WHO is a disease of the reproductive system by the failure to achieve clinical pregnancy after 12 month or more of Unprotected Sexual Intercourse. This remains a gynecological problem globally, developed and developing countries alike. This is a time sensitive issue and it is recommended to see a fertility expert because the earlier you seek help the greater your chances of success. For women over 35 and have history of painful periods, irregular cycles, pelvic inflammatory disease and miscarriage, it is recommended to seek help after 6 months of Unprotected Intercourse.

Infertility does not discriminate. It can affect any gender, race, religion and economic status. We at Origene Health Services just want to let you know that you are not alone and we are willing to walk this journey with you till the joyful end.
